Pg. 137 "Jiz McQueen-a friend of mine who's dead now-once told me to find out why I was left to rot." Gully doesnt even show any emotion when talking about Jiz, when he thinks she is dead. I know he cant show extreme emotion or else the scares will come back, but a like pause or brief silence. He hasnt showed any emotion ever her death at all. Which is sad because they became friends through the Whisper Line. I just think that he should feel even a little something about leaving her behind. Which is what was done to him, hes being a hypocrite. People left him behind, and he wants to kill them and will do anything to achieve that, but he leaves Jiz behind and nothing happens. -Kathryn Yacobucci
I agree with Kathryn that Gully shows no remorse or guilt about leaving Jisabella behind. It seems like he doesn't feel bad at all.It seemed like Gully was really close to Jisabella then he has no emotion when he leaves her to die. I also agree that this is sad because it seems like Jisabella was one of Gully's only friends.- Mara Hesley
I agree with Kathryn and Mara. Gully left Jiz behind, just like Vorga did to him! He is so intent on escaping Dagenham and finding Vorga that he completely abandons Jisbella. He seems pretty self-centered, since he mainly is looking out for his own best interests. - Julie Carney
Responce: personally i feel for gully. there was no way he could have heped jiz unless he got rid of the pyrE and if he did that. then preistein would have used it for major selfish reasons. so in a way by leaving jiz behind he also stopped something from happening sooner. JIz is cool and all but i personally think Gully did the right thing by leaving her there and savig the pyrE. -Keira Richardson
i agree with everyone here. when i read this, i thought, maybe he's so bent up over the vorga that he doesn't care who he harms. he just wants them out of his way. maybe he feels as if his life/his vengenece is more important than anyone else's life. or perhaps, he truly does care but wont show it. -taylor cashdollar.
RE: When I read that quote in the book, I was like, "Well, now, You're a good boyfriend aren't you." Gully's like so nonchalant about what he says it seems. Plus, it's like he seems to be falling for Robin..... What a weirdo. - Kaylee Goldsworthy =]
"Better" he murmured. "Much better. The old fakir was right, Yoga is the answer. Control. Pulse, breath, bowels, brains." In the line above this, Foyle takes a deep breath as his tattoo disappears. In this quote, this is the first mention of him trying to control his emotions to become better. He realizes that maybe yoga would help and that it would help him not be so angry and revengeful all the time. I think this is the first step for him to becoming well rounded and in control. This is a big step for him, I think, because it shows he cares and wants to change his life. -Nicole Crossman
Response: I agree with Nicole on how Gully is beginning to change his personality, not only for the sake of showing his tattoo, but for the sake of himself as well. He wants to become a better person, thus disguising his old-self. -Cullen Schimminger
I agree with nicole, that this is probably the key to him becoming in control of himself. maybe the whole revenge thing wouldn't drive him so insane if he wasn't so angry all the time. but also, if he is in control like that i also agree with Kathryn, that it could be bad for whoever passed him by on vorga. -Haley Kline
I agree Nicole. This is a huge step for Gully. He is learning to control his emotions, better. Although i think once he masters it he will be able to fool, lie, to anyone. So this may or may not be such a good thing. Once he is able to lie really well he will probably be able to do anything he wants, like get close to the guy that gave to the order to pass him by. It could be good thing though that he might be able to let the whole revenge thing go, but that doesn't seem likely at all. -Kathryn Yacobucci
I am not completely understanding the fact that he is at some get together with a fake name and very rich people. He goes on listing things that are coming to this get together that are a big deal to him and he also goes on about the huge amount of people jaunting in. I am confused as to why he chose to go here and why its not even explained to the reader why he is there and also as to where Jisbella is. -Marissa Kosko-Blyler
I also agree with Nicole. I believe he is trying to take control of his life... but i also believe that by learning to control his powers, he is actually just learning how to become more powerful. and like he said, he will do anything to get to Vorga, he wont let anything stand in his way. If he wants to get to Vorga, he has to learn to control his anger, he cannot blow his cover. So if yoga is what he has to do, then he will do it. -Janelle Meadows
i agree with nicole and everyone else. whe i read this i had a feeling that in the end, maybe he won't get his vengence. however, he could learn to control himself but then just throw it all away and avenge himself. this book is pretty unpredictable. -taylor cashdollar
A six-mother helicoper drifted down and hovered over a giant trampoline. Its belly opened and a casacde of furnishings came down. Page 124. Page 133. "What? Who? Fourmyle of--? Yes, of course. The buffoon.' I think this is symbolic for Gully because, accorrding to the dictionary, a buffoon is a person who amuses others by tricks, jokes, odd gestures and postures, etc. or a person given to coarse or undignified joking. Gully is tricking everyone by changing his identity and his name. Right now, Gully Foyle is pretending to be Geoffrey Fourmyle. Is Gully, Geoffrey, really a buffoon? I think he is because of the 'trick' he's pulling on society. -Heather Gibson
Gully also is changing who he is all together. I also think this shows how desperate he is to get revenge on the Vorga. He is will to desive all these people, and be someone he is not just to get at the person that gave the order to leave him. Although it really isnt that hard to believe because he left Jiz for death, and threaten Robin. I think Geoffrey is a buffoon, but I dont think that Gully is one. I think Gully is just trying to be able to get anyone that is related to the Vorga, and being a buffoon is the best way. -Kathryn Yacobucci
Response: I agree with Kathryn, it seems that Gully will do anything to get his revenge on the Vorga crew, including changing who he is altogether. He seemed to have taken Jiz's advice and actually began to use his brain instead of bombs, or brute force. It is amazing to me that he made such a dramatic change to himself, and that he managed to control his rage. - Christian Graham
Page 132. "Led by their chief buffoon, they jaunted up with music, fireworks, firewater and gifts." Firewater? I think this is another symbol of Gully's rebirth. The fire would represent the Holy Spirit, and the water would represent his baptism. What ever it is, it sounds really cool! -Bryant Sell
Firewater is commonly known as an alcoholic beverage or pulluted water. i believe in the pretext it means an alcoholic beverage because of the celebrating going on. It comes from a Native American term ishkodew meaning fire and aaboo meaniong liquid. I thought i would clear that up since alcohol has nothing to do with baptism :) - Keira Richardson
Page 133- "We've met before?" She scruntinized him closely, but still without recognition. Deep down inside Foyle there was a surge of triumph. If this woman of all women failed to remember him he was safe, provided he kept blood and brains and face under control."
Why does Gully want Robin's help to figure out information about Vorga? Maybe it is because she has the power to telesend and it might be useful in his search - Mara Hesley
Response: well Mara..(: He has information on where her family is and that family can be found near the same person who was controlling the Vorga and left him to die. Him knowing where her family is just makes her want to go along with him no matter what has happened in the past. But that doesnt keep any tension off between them. I dont think her power to telesend does much to help with finding that information but it helps him keep good conversion as Fourmyle of Ceres when talking to others keeping his identity and making him more famous.-Mindy Hayton
R: Later in the book you find out why he wanted Robins help. He needs her to help him learn how to act in a high society so he will blend in. She can tell him what to say or how to say it that way the high society people will believe that he is one of them. He can then find out the information that he needs to find the Vorga. -- Jameson Holsinger :)

Response: I agree with Julie. These ideas are completly new to me, and I really enjoy the idea of something like a 'hypno-oven' -Jess Filegar
I also Like all of the technology they use in the book. I think its cool how he sets his own vision of the future in a way. Kind of like jaunting too, how in the future they tap into different and stronger parts of the brain. Which is in a way your own technology. - Haley Kline

Or is it that if she focuses on one person, only that person can hear her thoughts? -Casey Pipetti
Responce: If she focuses enough on one person than only that person can hear her but with the emotional stress she is going through i think this ia a major struggle for her ause sometimes she cant keep her thoughts to herself when she wants to. - Keira Richardson
page 130- i don't understand why he is looking for Robin. or why he would think she will help him anyway? I also didn't really understand the whole circus thing either. but i don't see why the jack-jaunters would know anything about Robin. - Haley Kline
Response: I think Gully is looking for Robin because she is a telescend and can understand what people are speaking of and Gully was less-educated than most. -Joel Redfoot
R: I agree with Joel, The whole circus thing is Gullys cover up story and its a way to make him money so he can find information on Vorga, and the other people that was on the ship. As for the Jack- jaunters since they are in her house they might no what happened to her either they could have burned her or something else. -- Jameson Holsinger :)
Response: Gully was looking for Robin because he new she could help him. She was educated and she wanted to know where her family was. I think Gully knows where Robin's family is.- ALEX GEESEY
nerve plexus had been rewired, mircoscopic transistors and transformers had been buried in muscle and bone, a minute platinum outlet showed at the base of his spine. To this Foyle affixed a powerpack the size of a pea and switched it on. His body began an internal electronic vibration that was almost mechanical. WOW!!! That is really cool, he pretty much replaced every nerve in his body with electronics. He pretty much has super powers. That would be awsome to do. I think I would do this if I could.-Kyle Waite

Pg. 131 "I've got to learn how to extract information. Dagenham could teach me a thing or two." I thing he is refering to Dagenham is the fact that he kept doing all sorts of techniques to get the information that he needed to find the ship Nomad. So Gully wants to find out how to get information about Vorga.-Justin Skipper
p.g. 136. gully is talking to robin. " 'you destroyed me once,' she said in choked tones. 'are you trying to destroy me again?' 'no. will you listen?' she nodded." i don't undertand why robin would listen to his story. i mean, he had raped her. why would she give him the time of day? i would not even let him get out one syllable. i wonder as to why she did listen. -taylor cashdollar.
I also agree. I think it is killing him not knowing much about the Vorga. If Daganham helps him he could get somewhere with it. - Jess Koch
Is Gully rich in this chapter from the safe, or is it the character that he is playing? -Kelsey Baker
Pg. 134 "I'm obsessed by the brute who destroyed me." Robin says this because she doesn't recognize Foyle until his tattoo markings appear because Foyle was the person who rapped her and just destroyed herself in everyway. I believe Robin is obsessed by Foyle is because she feels trapped and probably thinks about it all the time.-Skipper
Response: I agree with Skipper, I think it restricted what she has done in her life. I think she went completely down hill after he raped her. It said she was on the armies gray list, which I guess is bad.
Response: I agree with Skipper too because she could've done more things with her life if he wouldn't have raped her. I think she's obsessed with him because she feels the need for revenge- ALEX GEESEY
"I want to find out why they left me to die, and who gave the order... He'll tell you.. before I kill him. He'll have plenty of time. He'll be a long time dying." It shocks me that Gully has almost based his whole life on finding the person who gaved be mad but I the order. I think I wouldon't think I would set my life on finding that person.-Paiton Nipps
Pg.128: The operation had cost Foyle a 200,000 bribe to the chief surgeon of the Mars Commando Brigade and had transformed him into an extraordinary fighting machine. This shows me that Gully is willing to anything and everything to find out who left him to rot. Money doesnt matter to him and now his body doesnt matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is revenge.- Taylor Vladic
Response: I agree with Taylor Vladic because it does show he whats to find out who left him to riot. It also saids he thinks it's o.k. to do what ever he needs to find of and like she said money and morals doesn't matter, he will do what ever he has to to get the information he needs.- Katelyn Broughton
Pg. 128: ""More machine than man," he thought. He dressed, rejected the extravagant apparel of Fourmyle of Ceres for the anonymous black coverall of action." I think he feels that he can do just about anything and is willing to do anything to get revenge on both the man on Vorga that left him to die and to those chasing him down for his escape with knowledge of his money. His cover was the Fourmyle of Ceres with the 4 mile circus to keep as his disguise. Is the randomnes of his choosing to be a clown relevant or a symbol?- Mindy Hayton
Why does Gully change his name to Geoffrey Fourmyle? Is it because he is out of the hospital and doesn't want to be put back in? Or is it to change his identity so no one knows who he is? I'm confused. -Kelsey Baker
Response: I think that Fourmyle is just a cover. Its basically to change his identity so that Saul Dagenham and Presteign cannot locate him. The only problem is that Foyle thinks he created Fourmyle, but Fourmyle is the man Dagenham tried to convince Gully that he was. - Danielle Heininger
Pg. 125 "then by plane,by car, by bus, by truck, by bike, and by jaunte came Fourmyle's entourage. Librarians and books, scientists and laboratories, philosophers, poets, athletes. racks of swords and sabres were set up, and judo mats and a boxing ring....musicians,actors, jugglers, and acrobats arrived." I find Foyle/fourmyle's collection/circus very interesting because in the present time these people are considered everyday citizens and have a completely normal job. ~nicole dengler
I agree with Nicole in this because it is comparing how people in the future and people today have similare jobs. But I'm not sure if they would be considered abnormal jobs because of jauting. - Tyler Slippy
Response: I agree with Nicole about the people are considered everyday citizens and have completely normal jobs, but is that only in the present day or is it in the future like in the book. Or are they considered freaks in the book? -Chanelle Meadows
Pg. 134 "I'm obsessed by the brute who destroyed me." As I had responded to a quote earlier, Gully has changed his ways from what he used to be, and this quote describes him as a brute. She also mentions in this quote that Gully "destroyed" her. I interpreted that as when he raped her, and left her to die on the asteroid, But, I have a question as well, and that is, why is this quote along with some of her other quote italicized, yet when she talks at other times it isn't?-Cullen Schimminger
This chapter confused me a little bit. I thought it was random how they just randomly jaunt to Robin's house and find those people. Sam Ellis
Pg. 123- This is where Fourmyle of Ceres is introduced. I was totally confused right after he took out his rage upon other members of the circus and then all of a sudden, Gully Foyle rises up. Yeah... But after a while it all made sense because I guess Geoffrey Fourmyle sort of gives a slight distinction of Gully Foyle as a name. So after this quote on Pg. 128. - "He dressed, rejected the extravagant apparel of Fourmyle of Ceres for the anonymous black coverall of action.", it made sense that Gully was pretending to be two people and technically in hiding. - Kaylee Goldsworthy =]
Pg. 136 "She shook her head frantically, tyring to struggle out of his grasp. With detached calm he punched her jaw. Robin sagged. Foyle picked her up, wrapped her in his coat and held her in his arms, waiting for consciousness to return. When he saw her eye lids flutter he spoke again." This shows how much of a brute and how non human Gully can be at points. - Tyler Slippy
